Every conservation success begins with a single decision to
protect what cannot be replaced.
When the Cape Coral Wildlife Trust (CCWT) acquired its first two conservation properties, those modest city lots were already home
to more than 40 active gopher tortoise burrows.
While they appeared to be ordinary vacant lots, they were thriving natural habitats quietly supporting wildlife every day.
Rather than allowing those landscapes to be lost to future development,
CCWT protected them, ensuring the wildlife that
depended on those habitats would continue to have a safe place to live.
Those first acquisitions became more than protected properties.
They became the foundation of the Trust's conservation mission,
demonstrating how even small parcels of land can make a
lasting difference when they are preserved forever.
What began with two properties established a vision that continues to guide the Cape Coral Wildlife Trust today, inspiring the ongoing protection of Cape Coral's unique wildlife and the natural habitats they call home.
